Pen Power: Summer Writing Starter Pack – Keep Your Voice Flowing

Can you feel it? That shift in the Leeds air, the way the light lingers just a little longer over the Headrow, and the city seems to catch its breath in the golden hour? We’ve reached a monumental moment in our journey together, and I am beyond excited to celebrate everything we’ve built over these last few months.

From our first tentative marks on the page at Society back in January to our soul-shaking move to The Wardrobe in February, the energy of Pen Power has been nothing short of revolutionary. We’ve grown, we’ve shifted, and we’ve found our rhythm. But as the summer sun starts to bake the pavements, it’s time for us to take a collective breath.

After our powerhouse finale session, "The Full Circle," on June 25th, Pen Power is heading into a short summer hibernation. But don't think for a second that the creativity stops here! To keep your voice flowing and your pen moving while we’re on break, I’ve put together something special: the Pen Power: Summer Writing Starter Pack.

Looking Back: Our Journey to The Wardrobe

Before we dive into the summer pack, let’s take a second to honour how far we’ve come. Remember back in February when we packed up our notebooks and moved our home to the Private Dining area at The Wardrobe? That move was a game-changer. There is something about the atmosphere of a venue rooted in live music and performance that just clicks with the way we write.

The Wardrobe has been the perfect backdrop for our genre-bending style. Nestled in the heart of the Leeds cultural quarter, it’s a place where the walls are steeped in the energy of every spoken word artist and musician who has ever graced its stage. Since February, we’ve met on the last Thursday of every month, carving out a sacred, judgment-free space for creativity. We’ve shared raw truths, experimented with live poetry performance techniques, and built a community that is as diverse as the city itself.

Arriving Gently into Summer

If you’ve ever been to a Pen Power workshop, you know our ethos: we arrive gently. We don’t crash into the page with the pressure of being "perfect." We breathe, we settle, and we let the words find us.

The summer break is an extension of that "arrive gently" philosophy. It’s a time to soak up inspiration, to listen to the world around us, and to refill our creative wells. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or someone who hasn't picked up a pen since school, this season is for you.

But I know how it goes, sometimes without the structure of our monthly sessions, that inner critic starts whispering. You might feel the "flow" start to dry up like a puddle in July. That’s exactly why the Summer Writing Starter Pack exists. It’s your creative anchor for the months of July and August.

What’s Inside the Starter Pack?

This isn't just a list of random prompts. The Pen Power: Summer Writing Starter Pack is a curated journey. It traces the themes we’ve explored throughout the first half of 2026, leading you through a six-step process to keep your voice sharp and your heart open.

Here is a sneak peek at the six prompts you’ll find inside the PDF:

1. Warm Up: The Sensory Summer

Before we dive into the deep stuff, we have to wake up the senses. This prompt focuses on the "now", the grit of the city, the taste of a cold drink, the sound of a distant festival. It’s about grounding yourself in the present moment.

2. Steady Flow: The Stream of Consciousness

Following the rhythm of our early sessions, this prompt encourages you to let the ink run without checking the map. No punctuation, no apologies, just the raw, unedited voice of your summer self.

3. Pulse & Pivot: Finding the Beat

As a poetry music hybrid artist, I always look for the rhythm in language. This prompt asks you to look at the "pivot" points in your life. Where does the beat change? How do you dance through the transitions?

4. Mother Tongue: Heritage and Heart

One of our most powerful sessions focused on the languages we speak and the ones we’ve lost. This prompt invites you to explore your roots, your slang, and the unique dialect of your soul.

5. Rhythm & Resistance: Writing the Change

Inspired by the genre-blending music artist vibe, this prompt is about the friction between who we are and who we want to be. It’s about using the pen as a tool for resistance and a spark for change.

6. Full Circle: The June Finale

We close the pack the same way we closed our June session. It’s a moment of reflection, looking back at the year so far and setting an intention for the season ahead.

Why We Write (Even When the Sun is Out)

You might be thinking, "Penny, it’s 25 degrees outside! Why should I be inside with a notebook?"

Writing isn't just about "producing" work. For us at D3 Creations, it’s about unique live entertainment of the soul. It’s about finding clarity in the chaos. When you sit down with these prompts, you aren't just writing poetry; you’re practicing presence.

In a world that moves at machine-gun speed, taking ten minutes to follow a prompt is an act of radical self-care. It’s a way to ensure that when we meet again in September, your voice hasn't gone into hiding, it’s been out in the sun, growing stronger and more authentic.

Whether you're heading to a festival for spoken word or just sitting in your back garden, these prompts are designed to be portable and playful. There are no rules. You can write a line, a page, or a whole song. You can scream them from a rooftop or whisper them into your voice notes.
