Pen Power Launch Recap: Breathing Life into Our Words

It Happened. And It Was Powerful.

I'm still buzzing, honestly.

On Monday, January 20th, Pen Power officially came to life at Society in Leeds, and I couldn't be more grateful for everyone who showed up, whether they'd booked in advance or simply walked through the door on a whim. Five beautiful souls gathered in that space, ready to breathe, write, and create. And create we did.

The energy? Electric but grounded. The vibe? Relaxed yet intentional. The creativity? It flowed like it had been waiting for permission all along.

This is exactly what I envisioned when I dreamed up Pen Power, a space where words become medicine, where expression becomes liberation, and where strangers become a community united by the power of the pen.

The Room Filled with More Than People

Let me paint the picture for you.

Society, Leeds. 6:30 PM. The city outside is doing its thing, traffic, chatter, the usual Tuesday evening hustle. But inside? We carved out a different kind of space entirely.

We had four sign-ups originally, though one couldn't make it on the night (don't worry, her ticket's been honoured for next month's session, because that's how we roll at D3 Creations). Then two walk-ins appeared, curious and open, ready to see what this Pen Power thing was all about.

Creative writing workshop in Leeds with five adults seated in a cozy circle, fostering spoken word and poetry.

And just like that, we had five writers in the room. Five people from different walks of life, different stories, different reasons for being there. But all united by one thing: the desire to express something real.

Breathing In, Writing Out

Here's something I knew from day one: you can't just throw people into the deep end of creative expression and expect magic. You've got to meet people where they are. You've got to create the conditions for creativity to flourish.

So I incorporated mindful breathing exercises right from the start.

We breathed to arrive. Slow, intentional breaths to shake off whatever the day had thrown at us. To let go of the to-do lists, the anxieties, the noise. To arrive, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, in that room, in that moment.

And it worked.

You could feel the shift. Shoulders dropped. Faces softened. The energy in the room became something you could almost touch, a collective exhale that said, "Okay. I'm here now. I'm ready."

From there, the words came easier. The barriers lowered. The creativity flowed.

At the end of the session, we breathed again. This time, to let go. To release whatever had surfaced during the writing. To honour the work we'd done and gently close that creative door until next time.

It was powerful. Truly powerful.

Creativity Flowed Like Conversation

What struck me most was how natural everything felt.

There was no awkwardness, no pressure, no competitive edge. Just people exploring their thoughts, playing with language, discovering new corners of their imagination. Some wrote poetry. Some wrote reflections. Some surprised themselves with words they didn't know they had inside them.

This is what happens when you create a safe space for expression. When you remove judgement from the equation. When you remind people that their voice matters: not because it sounds like someone else's, but precisely because it doesn't.

As a spoken word artist myself, I know how transformative it can be to finally say (or write) the thing you've been carrying around. Whether it's through live poetry performance, conscious rap UK style, or simply putting pen to paper in a room full of supportive strangers, expression is freedom.

And on January 20th, freedom filled that room.

Community Is Everything

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: D3 Creations is built on community.

Every blog post, every workshop, every live poetry performance I do: it all comes back to connection. To building something bigger than myself. To creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to share their truth.

Pen Power is an extension of that mission.

Watching five people who didn't know each other at 6:30 PM leave at 8:00 PM with smiles, new words in their notebooks, and a sense of accomplishment? That's the good stuff. That's why I do this.

And here's the thing: we're just getting started.

Pen Power Continues Every Tuesday

That's right. This wasn't a one-off. Pen Power is here to stay.

Every Tuesday evening, 6:30–8:00 PM, we gather at Society in Leeds to write, breathe, and tap into our creative power. Whether you're an experienced writer, a curious beginner, or someone who hasn't picked up a pen since school, you're welcome here.

Entrance to Society, Leeds, glowing at dusk, inviting participants to a live poetry and creative arts event.

Here's what you need to know:

  • When: Every Tuesday, 6:30–8:00 PM
  • Where: Society, Leeds
  • Cost: £7.50 introductory price / £15 regular
  • Capacity: 15 spots maximum (intimate by design)
  • Age: Over 18s only

I keep the group small for a reason. Fifteen people max means everyone gets space. Everyone gets heard. Everyone matters.

Book Online or Walk In

Want to guarantee your spot? Book online through D3 Creations and secure your place before the week rolls around. It's quick, it's easy, and it means you won't miss out if we hit capacity.

That said, walk-ins are absolutely welcome: if space allows. As we saw at the launch, sometimes the best decisions are spontaneous ones. Those two walk-ins? They left just as inspired as everyone else.

But here's my honest advice: if you know you want to come, book ahead. As word spreads about Pen Power (and trust me, it will), those fifteen spots will fill up fast.

What's Next?

I'm already planning the next few sessions, thinking about themes, prompts, and exercises that'll push us deeper into our creative selves. Every week will be different. Every week will offer something new. But that core essence: breathing in, writing out, supporting each other: will always remain.

If you joined us on January 20th, thank you. Genuinely. You helped birth something special.

If you couldn't make it but you're curious? The door is open. Come as you are. Bring your notebook, your open mind, and your willingness to explore.

And if you've been waiting for a sign to finally start writing, to finally express yourself, to finally tap into that creative voice you've been silencing? Consider this it.

Join the Movement

Pen Power isn't just a workshop. It's a movement. A space for authentic expression in a world that often tells us to stay quiet, fit in, blend with the crowd.

Not here. Here, we celebrate your voice. Your story. Your power.

So whether you're into live poetry performance, exploring conscious rap UK influences, or simply discovering the spoken word artist within you, there's a seat waiting for you every Tuesday at Society, Leeds.

Let's breathe. Let's write. Let's create.

Pop down to the next session and see what your pen has to say.
