Introducing My Band

Based in Leeds, Hayashi are a live band who have gained a reputation for playing high energy sets influenced by drum and bass, breakbeat, hip-hop electronica and dub-step. Drummer/producer Gideon Woods and Bassist/producer Ben Coleman started Hayashi as a studio project in 2003 and since then this partnership has developed. With the phattest rhythm section since Sly & Robbie, the Hayashi sound comprises jaw dropping drumming and big Bass grooves complemented by melodies that are lush and dirty in equal measure. Hayashi also features the talents of Leeds based vocalists D3 and Miss Fanny Adams.

With a strong DIY ethic, Hayashi record and release their material on their own label - Moonrock LS6 recordings. Their 2007 album 'badmachine' won critical praise throughout the land.

Hayashi put out serious groves with vocal complexity and supremacy to die for and beat continuity that will keep you moving from start to finish. See them anywhere you've got room to move." BBC Leeds, Live in Leeds

what people are saying about D3

In June 2017, I attended Denetta’s workshops on how to write your own rap song that was delivered as part of a literature festival, a funded community project at New Wortley community centre.

I had been a previous workshop on writing rap and I found Denetta’s methods for teaching were far more engaging. She has a unique way of encouraging people’s personal stories from them and building their confidence. I have dyslexia and other in the mixed group were vulnerable and had learning needs. Denetta responded with empathy and shared her own personal experiences, making us comfortable to share ours. Not only did I write a rap song, we all got up and performed it in a showcase night!

Being able to empower anyone to perform their own work is a very special thing.

D3 confidence from the moment she walked in the studio, and after watching her perform in the live lounge, I could see why. Her lyrical content and delivery are impeccable. Her received pronunciation allows you to hear every word, although her flow is fast.

I was very interested to learn about her work with the Leeds Young Authors and the U.S.A competitions they took part in, during the live interview.

I already know and LOVE the Leeds based Hayshi band that D3 is also in. Denetta gave me hope that we will see them again soon..
